In this months featured project, we catch up with the Hall family and give them a chance to look back on their experience with Finished Basement Company. Thanks to the collaboration of our amazing designers and the homeowners, this once unused space, has now been transformed into a contemporary oasis filled with everything you could dream of. The fireplace is set as the centerpiece of the basement and can be seen from all of the different rooms. This all inclusive design has a home theater, a large gym, a workout area, a pool table and a game room. The space also provides two bathrooms and tons of storage.
It was very easy to collaborate with our designer, Julia. Once we set out our style preference as a bit more modern than the transitional decor in the rest of the house she came up with great ideas for the layout of the rooms and design features to make the space visually interesting. She addressed all of our concerns and ideas at meetings both at the Finished Basement Company office, at our home, and through email and telephone calls. She was very easy to reach and always responded promptly. We felt like the ultimate design really addressed our needs and wishes for the use of space. The outcome far exceeded our expectations.
Our biggest concern at the outset of the project was the ceiling height. Our designer and project manager showed us that the ceiling height was not the problem, it was the tragic soffits that were littering our ceiling and the poor design of the prior layout. Now when we go down to the basement we do not even think of the ceiling height as the soffits have been minimized and the ceiling has an appealing design that disguises all manner of ductwork and steel beams. Their expertise in this regard was worth every penny.
What is your family’s favorite element of your newly finished space?
Our family’s favorite element of the new space is the TV wall with the fireplace. We also just enjoy coming down the stairs which now opens up immediately into the game room area. It is such a dramatic improvement over the cave that used to be our basement.
